Peter takes the symbiote to Oscorp to destroy it, but a desperate Harry intercepts him and reclaims it, transforming into a monstrous creature. After slaughtering Oscorp staff trying to remove the symbiote from him, the symbiote-induced Harry escapes into Times Square, where he defeats several of Kraven’s Hunters before overpowering and killing Kraven himself. The symbiote convinces Harry to “heal the world” by infecting everyone on Earth with symbiotes, starting with New York. Dubbing themselves “Venom”, Harry and the symbiote transform Mary Jane into Scream, but Peter helps her break free after battling and reconciling with her.
There are 31 main missions to complete in Spider-Man 2, and while there isn’t a “point of no return” to contest with, at certain times you are locked out from side missions along the way. After finishing the fantastic story I then went back to mop up all of the optional tasks that I had left to do. This took me another nine hours, meaning I reached 100% completion and that precious platinum trophy after 27 hours in total. Upshot deploys a drone that shoots webbing at nearby enemies then tosses them into the air. This can be used either offensively or defensively, allowing players to head straight into aerial combos or delay enemy attacks.

Miles Morales 2020 Suit
Venom hangs over the main characters like a spectre of grief, drenching them in black as if in a state of mourning. Peter reunites with Harry and Mary Jane and attempts to return the suit to Harry, but it refuses to leave him; the three figure they need Connors’ help. While investigating Kraven, Peter discovers that Kraven is dying of cancer and is looking for someone who can give him a “warrior’s death” in combat. Peter manages to retrieve the serum from Kraven, who discovers the exosuit’s weakness to loud noises. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first revealed during Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase event. The initial trailer gave us a look at Peter Parker and Miles Morales in action together, with Venom joining the fight at the very end. As Peter and Miles attempt to stop Venom, Peter is debilitated by a trace amount of the symbiote still within him. After Miles settles his differences with Li, the latter uses his powers to convert Peter’s symbiote traces into the Anti-Venom symbiote, which can destroy other symbiotes. Concurrently, Venom recovers the meteorite that originally brought him to Earth and empowers himself with it, accelerating his infestation on New York. Peter and Miles distract Venom while Mary Jane steals the meteorite and destroys it with the EMF’s particle accelerator, destroying Venom’s symbiote horde. At Harry’s insistence, Peter destroys the symbiote and frees Harry from its control, but renders Harry comatose.
Insomniac wanted to tell an original story that was not linked to an existing property, creating a unique universe (known as Earth-1048) that has since appeared in novels, merchandise, and comics. That liveliness is apparent in both the visuals and the motion-captured performances. Even when maniacally whipping through midtown on a spider’s thread, it’s hard not to give into the urge to regularly stop and soak in the glitz of the current gen graphics. In Fidelity mode, the game runs at 4K resolution with full raytracing on display.

The bite causes Miles to gain super powers, matching Spider-Man’s but with the additional abilities to generate bioelectric attack and go invisible. After Miles shares his developing powers to Peter, Peter reveals he is Spider-Man, with powers of his own. Peter agrees to mentor Miles into following in his footsteps as his own Spider-Man. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has plenty of villains that Spider-Man has either fought or has yet to fight throughout the game. Many of the hero’s previous supervillains have actually rehabilitated, and now attempt to live a normal life in New York City.

Instead, Spider-Man 2 plumps for a pretty confused take on the now venerable black suit/Venom’s origin storyline. It’s mashed together with an uncharacteristically large-scale invasion of New York by Kraven the Hunter (seeking worthy super-powered prey) and a tangle of other subplots and returning villains.
For Spider-Man 2 high ray tracing specs, you’ll need a GPU architecture upgrade, where only an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT will do. Despite being a PS5 port, the Spider-Man 2 system requirements can ask a lot of your gaming PC, especially if you want to play at 4K with ray tracing enabled. On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule. On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. Despite being awash with paramilitary criminal organisations, New York has never felt more toothless and dull.
Miles Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli in ULTIMATE FALLOUT (2011) #4, set in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. In this world, Aaron steals the genetically engineered spider, developed from Peter Parker’s blood, and Miles is bitten by it while visiting his uncle. In the aftermath of Peter’s death in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (2000) #160, Miles steps up to become the new Spider-Man and honors Peter’s legacy. Marvel’s Spider-Man finds a super-powered crime syndicate known as the Inner Demons taking advantage of the void left by the Kingpin’s arrest, often targeting Mayor Norman Osborn’s assets. At a mayoral reelection event honoring Officer Jefferson Davis for his heroism in the line of duty, the Demons attack, killing Jefferson in the chaos.
