All of this is taken to new heights of immersion through the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback adaptive triggers pair with the 3D audio in superb fashion. It’s one thing to watch as your character strikes down the undead and impales a skeleton, it’s another to completely hear and feel the difference. Every sword strike and spell blast feel instantly recognizable, while even the creaking of a chain-operated elevator or the pattering of rain add to the overall immersion. It really has to be felt to be understood but the DualSense finalizes this game as having the best gameplay of any “Souls” title. Demon’s Souls Remake feels positively slow compared to other games from developer FromSoftware — and it’s still a very challenging game.
Encountered in a ruin roughly halfway through 4-1, the Adjudicator Shield, while not a weapon in a traditional sense, is an excellent complementary piece for builds that aren’t excessively reliant on parrying or dexterity. Classified as a large shield, it’s not practical in all situations, and it doesn’t even negate one hundred percent of incoming damage. A classic starting weapon for Demon’s Souls is the Knight Sword, a simple weapon that can be wielded in one or both hands by your character. This tool is the ultimate example of flexibility, as you can upgrade it or infuse it however you want without the risk of it losing its best qualities. The low Stamina cost on each swing means that your strikes will be fast and reliable without putting your character at risk. If you manage to find the Ring of Avarice, you’ll increase the number of souls that drop from enemies, making soul farming more bountiful.
Because, ultimately, video game realism doesn’t even look like the real world. Sometimes, the clouds diffuse light and you can’t ever figure out where it’s coming from. Sometimes overgrowth twists into bizarre patterns or dies too early. The evolving aesthetic of video game realism, instead of looking like reality, just ends up looking like other video games.
Fans of the original can revisit the kingdom of Boletaria and fight demons in the best way possible. New Soulslike fans should check out the game that started it all, as it is worth revisiting in 2025 and beyond. Bluepoint Games perfectly reimagined the original version of Demon’s Souls and gave it the remake it deserves.

Also learning the proper uses of items, blocking, and patience is the key to getting through this stage. The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls retains one of the original’s more complex gameplay systems and it remains just as enigmatic. The World Tendency system in Demon’s Souls alters the state of the many realms of Boletaria based on your actions, and the challenge they present, for better or worse. Depending on your choices and mistakes, you could find yourself exploring a dungeon that has increased in difficulty, yet also yields more significant rewards. Demon’s Souls’ gameplay also has an incredible amount of depth to it.
Moreover, it’s novel and almost surreal to see what FromSoftware cooked up in 2009, and how its approach to game-making has evolved since then. It is all around just a magnificent showcase of the power of the PlayStation 5 and an enticing taste and what’s to come if things can look this good on a launch game. All of this is true for Bluepoint’s remake, which largely stays true to the spirit of the original Demon’s Souls, both for better and for worse. Not all of the ways Demon’s Souls differentiates itself from the rest of the Souls series are positive ones. Demon’s Souls is exceptionally grindy in often frustrating, time-wasting ways. Weapon upgrading is also needlessly convoluted, with 16 different types of upgrade materials to find and make sense of, and almost every weapon type requiring different materials in order to upgrade them.
There’s a lot we missed, but we’ll cover more of the details later! For now, enjoy this incredibly beautiful remaster of a classic game that many of us are finally getting a chance to experience. Make sure to enter 2-2 early and start collecting upgrade materials. 2-2 is packed with useful items, so there’s no reason to stop exploring. Don’t worry about dying — you’ll still keep any items you collect.
The Demon’s Souls Remake by Bluepoint Games and SIE Japan Studio managed to be one of the best launch games on either the Xbox Series X or PS5. The fact that it was a console exclusive helped bolster the PS5 as millions of gamers were excited to dive back into the FromSoftware title that started their recent decade in excellence. More items have been added to give more life to the world of Demon’s Souls, as it would be a shame if it felt static and lifeless with nothing but demons everywhere. Along with this, Bluepoint has given more unique animations to weapons so they all feel different. Getting back into the game now takes mere seconds compared to the original, allowing more time to fight demons and explore the newly imagined world. Waiting to get back into the game is a real bore and ruins the experience of a great game.
Demon’s Souls is not a game meant to be played once, it’s a game with the catchphrase “The Real Demon’s Souls Starts Here” when you enter NG+, and it is absolutely true. Manipulating world and character tendency, finding all the NPC events, collecting all weapons and spells is a multi-cycle affair that gets more and more fun as you go on. The use of 3D audio is equally good, with many enemies identified by sound long before you see them, but it’s arguably the DualSense controller which makes the most difference. Together with HM88 improved sound, animation, and collision detection there’s a much greater sense of solidity and weight to the remake.
